In der jüngeren Geschichte der sozialen Bewegungen Österreichs gibt es offiziell nur eine enttarnte verdeckte Ermittlerin: Danielle Durand – eingeschleust in den Verein gegen Tierfabriken und beauftragt, deren vermeintlich kriminelle Machenschaften aufzudecken. Aufgrund fehlender Beweismittel unterschlugen sowohl Polizei als auch die Staatsanwaltschaft deren Existenz. Nur durch ein gründliches Aktenstudium der Repressionsbetroffenen konnte Danielle Durand enttarnt und als Entlastungszeugin vor Gericht geladen werden. Dass die verdeckte Ermittlerin die einzige weit und breit gewesen sein soll, erscheint nach staatlichen Denkmustern unlogisch. Und doch gibt es weder Berichte über Anquatschversuche noch Redebedarf über vergangene Fälle, die zweifelsohne in Wien existieren.

In the more recent history of Austria’s social movements, there is officially only one uncovered undercover investigator: Danielle Durand – smuggled into the association against animal factories and commissioned to uncover their supposedly criminal machinations. Due to a lack of evidence, both the police and the public prosecutor’s office undermined their existence. Only through a thorough study of the files of the individuals affected by the repression could Danielle Durand be unmasked and summoned to appear as a witness in court. According to national patterns of thought, it seems illogical that the undercover investigator was the only one far and wide. And yet there are neither reports of chat-up attempts nor the need to talk about past cases, which undoubtedly exist in Vienna.
We will talk about the legal backgrounds in Austria, about specific considerations on how to proceed with a suspicion and about a general attitude called Security Culture, with the help of which it should be difficult for spies as well as informants of all kinds to get information that they so urgently want to sniff out for the state.
